Hey fellow crafters,
if you are subscribed to the newsletter, you may have received an email that might've felt different to you. In this email, I spoke about 2 Norwegian knits. One was my beloved Marius Sweater, and the other one was the Norwegian-inspired resistance hat Melt The Ice.
First and foremost, let me tell you openly and boldly that I do not benefit from the sale of Melt the Ice hat patterns. I did not write the pattern, or publish it, nor do I get any type of revenue-share from the sale of it.

After sending this email, one (yes, only ONE out of many thousands) subscriber felt the need to let me know they were unsubscribing from my emails because they didn't want to see "politics" in their knitting so I was going to "lose" their business...
They were offended because I shared this wildly popular knitting pattern with my knitting audience...
So... let's unpack this.
The main lesson you need to draw from this article is:
I DO NOT MAKE MUCH MONEY FROM THIS SHOP.
There. I said it.
Sure, I do have revenue, but most of it is offset by the expenses incurred to run this store. My goal for this adventure is not to become rich (lol). I wish it would be, so I could spend hours building new and interesting content for you! How fun would that be!?
But in case you don't know, very few crafting businesses make enough money to pay the bills, and this shop is not one of them.
I built Sierra and Pine to share the love of crafting and knitting with like-minded folks. To nurture a community that is open, honest, and full of love and respect for each other. To share the peace the Sierras bring me so they can touch you as well, even if you don't live nearby.
I am disappointed that this subscriber felt offended because I shared a knitting pattern on a knitting newsletter (oh, the horror!) and THEY think it is tied to politics and don't like the message THEY believe is associated with it. Their offense has nothing to do with this shop, and everything to do with them and who they are and what they believe in.
You don't like what I share, or my opinions about something knitting or crafting related?
This is a free space. You can choose not to visit this website. And in every email you get, you can click the unsubscribe button and never receive an email from this shop again. It's that easy.
And if you opt to do so, please know that I wish you well and good luck in your future endeavor. Maybe one day your beliefs will evolve, or you'll see a new product or downloadable I published, and choose to resubscribe. Or maybe not, and that's fine too. Not everything is for everyone and that's okay.
Of course, I am grateful for those who stay and/or support this shop in any way, shape, or form, and contribute to sharing the crafts we love. Thank you! Your continued engagement is why this shop stays open and why I keep on releasing new, fun (and oftentimes free) things!
As for the loss of business comment from that "angry" subscriber... Well, I never laughed so hard on a weekend morning!
So to keep things positive and to support the Melt The Ice Resistance Hat, I've decided to destash some red yarns that would make for gorgeous hats. I assume the yarn shops are running out of red yarns by now, so if you've been looking for some, I just added a few skeins to the destash section -- below retail value, because that's how I roll. My convictions are your bargains. Pay it forward.
Knit on!
