Everything has gotten so expensive lately, hasn’t it? Groceries, gas, even the little treats we used to enjoy without guilt. All of it. I don’t need to tell you that; we’re all feeling it.
Like you, I used to splurge (just a little 😉) on my craft hobbies. I loved ordering those indie-dyer advent calendars and fiber arts subscription boxes that would show up every month with beautiful little surprises. They were my favorite kind of indulgence.
But this year… wow. Everything feels like it’s doubled in price.
There was this knitting advent I’d been eyeing — not even yarn, mostly notions — for $285. Two hundred and eighty-five dollars!!! Another sewing advent popped up at $199. And try as I might, I couldn’t find any good crafty advents under $100 that didn’t look like a dollar-store grab bag.
I'm not looking for something cheap; I just want something good. Something that will make me smile, that feels thoughtful and useful. The kind of advent that sparks joy every morning when you open it, not regret over the price tag. You know that feeling?
So I searched. I scrolled through endless Facebook ads, browsed Amazon, waited for Meta to read my mind… and came up empty.
That's why I make the kind of advent I’ve been searching for.
I’ve created a few of my own this year: the 12 Days of Soaps Advent, the 12-Day Knitting Advent, a Mini Advent for Knitters, and the Stocking Stuffers for Knitters. Each one is filled with high-quality, delightful, practical little treasures that I’d be thrilled to receive myself.
A good friend of mine told me recently that I tend to undersell myself (something about self-worth and people-pleasing: you know how it goes 😅). And she’s right. These advents are woefully underpriced. But that's okay. Because deep down, what I really want is for people to feel happy. To feel that cozy holiday excitement that comes with unwrapping something special each day.
I want to make advents that feel worth it. Thoughtful. Beautiful. Joyful.
So that’s what I do.
And while I can’t surprise myself with one (perks of being the maker, I guess...), YOU can.
Just a heads-up: this is still a small-batch labor of love. I do have a full-time job, and these advents take a lot of late-night wrapping and packing. So, quantities are limited. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!
